Farmhouse Breakfast Week
Many businesses across Leicestershire offer excellent locally sourced food at their breakfast tables, which the annual ‘Farmhouse Breakfast Week’ offers a great opportunity to highlight.
The week runs from 23 - 29 January 2011 and promotes the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. Businesses can take part by introducing a special menu during the week, or holding a breakfast themed event.

The National Forest Company has recently published 'Much More Than Trees 3, a report on the Socio-Economic Impact of The National Forest.
This work involved reviewing and updating the 2004 Much More than Trees report and incorporated tourism and woodland economy data and recent community and business perception studies.
The work also provided analysis to update The National Forest’s sustainable development indicators, and culminated in the production of Much More Than Trees 3.

The LRP recently said goodbye to one of it's longstanding partner reps.
Bob Scott, who had sat on the LRP's Management Board, and more recently the Strategy and Performance group, for nine years has retired from Leicestershire Constabulary after many years of service. In that time he was always willing and able to provide his advice and thoughts and would readily offer more hands on practical support, particulalry when it came to staffing the rural trailer!
LRP Chairman, County Councillor Lesley Pendleton, said, "We will miss Bob's lively and valuable contribution into the LRP along with the excellent relationship which he helped maintain with the Leicestershire Constabulary."
Bob is pictured with members of the Strategy and Performance group where he was presented with a bottle of his favourite tipple, a bottle single malt whisky. He assures us that he'll be enjoying his retirement devoting time to his family, including his four granchildren, while taking every opportunity to visit his static caravan near Harrogate.
In his place we are pleased to welcome Chief Inspector Sally Chivers who will now be representing Leicestershire Constabulary on the LRP.
Although Access to Services is a key priority of the LRP and Leicestershire's rural communities providing ALL this information concisely can be challenging.
The 'Access to Services' interactive tool provides a powerful resource that provides:
- information relevant to a particular service
- identification of areas with a particular demographic of service user
- distances to key services
- identification of communities dependent on key services
- identification of communities potentially disadvantaged in the access to a service
The is also an opportunity to provide feedback, particulalry regarding other data which could be included.
The Rural Intelligence Foundation are urging people to complete their online Rural Insight survey which aims to help ensure key rural issues receive the prominence they deserve along with helping develop and promote fresh ideas that benefit rural people and the countryside.

Respondents who feel both categories are relevant to their experience are encouraged to complete both versions of the survey.
All respondents will in due course receive a summary of the results, enabling them to see their contribution to what is a significant new source of information concerning the future of rural England.
Responses to the current Rural Insight survey will close on 5 November 2010 and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
The BIG Lottery Fund is investing an additional £75 million for community-use buildings through its flagship programme, Reaching Communities.
From early December, voluntary and community sector organisations and parish and town councils across England will be able to apply for capital funding from BIG of between £100,000 to £500,000.
The money will be available for all types of multi-purpose buildings used by communities including memorial halls, community centres and village halls. Each project should have a total value of no more than £750,000. The new funding stream has been designed with a view to transforming current buildings into community buildings which can offer a wide range of activities benefitting a broad group of citizens.
An LRP supported project aimed at those out of work in and around Lutterworth was showcased at County Hall recently.
In2Work, which is based at Wycliffe House, Lutterworth’s Voluntary & Community Services One Stop Shop, offers FREE training and advice through their Community Computer Centre, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Lutterworth Community Transport for:
- Job searches
- Confidence building
- Application forms/CVs
- Computer & IT skills
- Volunteering
- Benefits, financial & legal advice
Staff and clients from the One Stop Shop were met by LRP Chairman, Lesley Pendleton, before giving a presentation in the Council Chamber outlining their work and some of the success stories. This was followed by a buffet lunch and the opportunity to have a guided tour around County Hall.
